Alexander Techneeqs is currently producing Drum and Bass, Hip Hop, Funky House and Garage, or anything in-between those that he likes the sound of. Based in Sheffield he spends his free time using Cubase 4 on PC , sample hunting always and looking for collaborations or remixes. For now he’s focusing on trying to get his tracks heard and name seen. He has had good times Djing at various parties and gigs but would love to eventually DJ professionally.

WK: So first comes first when did you start making music & what got you into music to start with?
AT: I’ve liked music since I can remember first hearing it, and quickly got my sense of rhythm when hearing ‘ice ice baby’! I made my first tune on ‘music 2000’ on the playstation when i was about 10 and since then have been enjoying putting tracks together.
WK: First piece of music you bought?
AT:Pure Garage the first compilation, DJ EZ
WK: What’s your favourite track and/or artist of the moment?
AT: I realy could not name a favourite artist, let alone a track. A few faves are Pete Rock, Todd Edwards, Brookes Brothers, Bonobo, MJ Cole….
WK: Vinyl, CD or digital?
AT: Will always love vinyl but its just easier carrying 100 odd tracks on Cds or memory sticks. Though I will be keeping the majority of my vinyl for the rest of my time.
WK: If you had one golden rule about making music what would it be?
AT: Make music that you want to hear. Don’t feel you have to work to a certain genre or anything like that. Oh and don’t try and master your tracks when drunk.
WK: How do you approach producing? Do you get an idea in your head then build on it? Or do you start with a blank & just start fiddling with sounds?
AT:Start fresh, lay down some percussion, a mix of samples and synths makes the vibe I want and form a few good loops. These days I try and get my variations planned out at the start, then its all sequencing and mastering. When trying for a remix I start working round vocals first.
WK: What inspires & influences your music?
AT: Everyday things, peoples behaviour. All other music and sounds I hear.
WK: When did you first think of yourself as a producer & was there a particular track you made that gave you that feeling?
AT:Getting good feedback from mates motivated me at the start, I guess thats when I considered myself a producer and wanted to keep on it. Collaborating makes my role feel slightly more official these days.
WK: what do you enjoy more Djing or Producing & why?
AT: Absolutley love Djing to a crowd when I get the chance, but people liking what Ive made myself is top.
WK: Tune for the Summer?
AT: Well I’ve sat back in the sun to ‘i.n.i fakin jaxx’ a good few times so far but ‘a bit patchy eric pryds remix’ is my summer essential every year
