Mix Fix #004

It’s been a while, I’ve started a Uni course, life is busy but yeah enough about me:

I’ve been listening to this mix non-stop for like the last 3 days, it’s just damn good! It’s noisy but not too much in the way of nonsense, heavy bass all the way through and the last song is just….good….just really good…just really really good. If it’s out there on vinyl somewhere I want it bad. But yeah enjoy: -

Check out the blog I found it on as well: http://dubsteptheotherside.blogspot.com/

Because of Uni work and other stuff I’m probably only going to be posting one mix at a time for these “mix fixes” for a while, at least until January(ish) after which I might have a bit more free time.

Mix Fix #003

Hey again there peoples, welcome to another edition of Mix Fix.

First off big UPS to Akid on this mix, it features a lot of unheard stuff from a few producers hailing from Sheffield like Commodo & MrSly. It’s a slick mix with heavy basslines, same as always when Akid is involved, be sure to listen to “with an appropriate amount of bass”. See the previous article for an interview with Akid about his soundsystem <20HZ soundsystem, check the facebook page for upcoming events etc -> http://on.fb.me/20HzSound.

A-Kid - June 2011 by <20Hz SoundSystem

Secondly is this nice little number from Planas, the bassiest / producer from Gentlemen’s Dub Club, who are pretty skanking tbh, everytime I see um it’s good fun. Anyway on to the mix, it’s a chilled out bass-low sort of flavor, think of the that cup of tea when you got home from work, then add bass. If you wanna get something done while feeling some bass noise go for this un.

Next is a mix from DJ Rastacore, I must admit it was the name that made me listen to this mix but it doesn’t disappoint, it’s a nice mix of drum & bass, dancehall and dubstep numbers. I gotta admit the “Face Gets Splat” tune makes me do that dirty-tune-grimace everytime, it’s a nasty bit of bass. All the other tunes move along nicely nicely, with a load of bass for your ears, enjoy! And if your gonna be at Bestival & fancy getting down to some bassy sound go search him out.

Nice for some hip-shaking, body-movin drum and bass with a little twist if you can fit that in. Nothing amazingly special about this mix but it has some nice grooves & I enjoy passing my day listening to it. Less up-&-at-em attack drum & bass, more chilled out sunshiny day with barbecue vibe.

Thanks for listening!

Be sure to send me a link to any mixes you would like to recommend on facebook or here or by e-mail on steelthiszine@gmail.com.

Mix Fix #002

Okay so I didn’t actually get round to making a mix last month but I’ve been listening to quite a few.

The first one I searched out is a Steppas & Dubstep mix, nice heavy bass & some big tunes in it as well. One for any time of day, be the sun shining down or in a dark cave somewhere.

Ogro Steppa Mix! by Confronto Soundsystem

Next was a couple of mixes from the much more professional & on top of it online mag called inhabit - http://www.inhabitonline.co.uk/ . It’s a seriously good read & look & listen, if you want info about anything that’s cool or will be cool in the future head over there.

So to the mixes, the first is from Reuben G who I interviewed a while back about his soundsystem that’s part of Liquid Steel Sounds. This time he’s on a housey vibe & bring tunes from here & there with tight claps & a smooth mix through out. A good one for a lazy afternoon, sit back & soak up the bleeps & bloops.

Next is a mix from the previous interviewee who is making moves around the scene, Kidnap Kid come with this mix bringing all his knowledge of garage & house to the table & creating a sublime mix of bassy bits & nice noises.

Here’s a mix from 2-DP, a Sheffield boy originally but now based in Winchester. Still pumping out the good stuff though. This ones for those weirdos that like house like me, a spattering of that future garage stuff again & just general goodness. Also featuring a track by Sheffield bad boy, now based in Leeds, Kidnap Kid. Check out his Facebook page - http://on.fb.me/juHoN3 - for links to his soundcloud & stuff where his sounds are, some good stuff on there.

House Is For Weirdo’s Only by 2-DP

Finally there’s a mix from Sheffield soundboy Akid, one of the founding members of <20hz Sound System, if your looking for some conscious sound with real heavy bass and nasty noises that will make you wanna bang your head against the wall, or just to make you pull that bass-induced grimace check this mix out.

A-Kid - may 2011 mixtape by <20Hz SoundSystem

That’s all for now, keep on sending me stuff to listen to & keep on making those big mixes!

Mix Fix #001

Welcome to the first bumper edition of Mix Fix, a somewhat regular look at some mixes i’m currently enjoying & liking.

So it briefly felt like the summer was here & I felt a craving for some Hip Hop, especially as I do  alot of driving these days for work & Hip Hop is generally good driving music. After searching around a bit I found this little beut, to be honest most of what I found was agreeable but this one was the one I liked best. Hip Hop grove goodness, enjoy!

On the idea of summer tunes check out Reuben G Spring 2011 Dancehall Mix if your enjoying the sun & want something to shake your body bits to. Featuring old & new tunes, bangers one & all, get some shaking done!

I recently felt myself craving for some “Future Garage”, to be honest i’m not quite sure I knew what that genre actually meant at the time but after searching soundcloud for it I found the below mix. Bass with a difference, the difference being the bass is the same but the bleeps & bloops are a bit different. I especially like the last couple of songs. Enjoy!

I know I might have said that the summer could be here but I just can’t get this mix out of my mind & everytime I listen to it I feel better & enjoy it the same as before. Been really feeling MJ Cole’s productions & I think this mix still works even in the summer. Enjoy!

Hope you liked the first Mix Fix, if you have a mix you’d like me to listen to & potentially put in the next edition please link or send it to me at steelthiszine@gmail.com .

Cheers,

MrSly

MrSly on the Decks

MrSly is a young DJ/Producer living in Sheffield, his sound is mainly in line with the harder end of Dubstep. I first saw him play at a free warehouse party near the Ski Village in Sheffield & thought he was absolutely banging hence I asked him whether he’d answer a few questions about himself
