Mix Fix #005 - Kidnap Kid, B-Ju and 123Mrk (Future Garage)

Here’s a few mixes that have been bouncing around my head for a few months now, because I’m a lazy sod I’m only just putting them up. All these mixes are part of the (not so) new genre of future garage, at least I think they are….
Starting off with a mix from Kidnap Kid for his label Squelch & Clap. Kidnap Kid has been making noises, and playing other peoples, in the UK and further abroad playing out in Europe on the regs. This mix includes some of his own tracks with other good talent seemlessly bringing melodic vocal samples mixed with smooth drum patterns and all around goodness.
Check out the interview with Kidnap Kid all the way back in April: http://steelthiszine.tumblr.com/post/4403136377/kidnap-kid

B-Ju showcases some great tunes in this little beauty of a mix. I literally cannot get tired of this mix and every time I hear it I rate it more and more. So seemless and so much catchy electronic noise & the vocals just fit so well with the overall mix. It also features a remix of a Kidnap Kid song by 123Mrk who provides the next mix.

Also bringing sweet sweet sounds to the masses is 123Mrk with this monster mix of tuneage. The mix starts off on a laid-back pace but soon kicks it up a notch, speeding up the tempo and brining in more cut-up sounds and samples. The mixing is again top notch, with great combinations of tracks and drops put to good use. You can also download this beaut for your respective mp3 device over at the wearerebels.com website. It has tracks from the aforementioned Kidnap Kid included and also features one of my favourite tunes of 2011 the Machinedrum remix of Look at stars by SBTRKTF.

Mix Fix #004

It’s been a while, I’ve started a Uni course, life is busy but yeah enough about me:

I’ve been listening to this mix non-stop for like the last 3 days, it’s just damn good! It’s noisy but not too much in the way of nonsense, heavy bass all the way through and the last song is just….good….just really good…just really really good. If it’s out there on vinyl somewhere I want it bad. But yeah enjoy: -

Check out the blog I found it on as well: http://dubsteptheotherside.blogspot.com/

Because of Uni work and other stuff I’m probably only going to be posting one mix at a time for these “mix fixes” for a while, at least until January(ish) after which I might have a bit more free time.

Mix Fix #002

Okay so I didn’t actually get round to making a mix last month but I’ve been listening to quite a few.

The first one I searched out is a Steppas & Dubstep mix, nice heavy bass & some big tunes in it as well. One for any time of day, be the sun shining down or in a dark cave somewhere.

Ogro Steppa Mix! by Confronto Soundsystem

Next was a couple of mixes from the much more professional & on top of it online mag called inhabit - http://www.inhabitonline.co.uk/ . It’s a seriously good read & look & listen, if you want info about anything that’s cool or will be cool in the future head over there.

So to the mixes, the first is from Reuben G who I interviewed a while back about his soundsystem that’s part of Liquid Steel Sounds. This time he’s on a housey vibe & bring tunes from here & there with tight claps & a smooth mix through out. A good one for a lazy afternoon, sit back & soak up the bleeps & bloops.

Next is a mix from the previous interviewee who is making moves around the scene, Kidnap Kid come with this mix bringing all his knowledge of garage & house to the table & creating a sublime mix of bassy bits & nice noises.

Here’s a mix from 2-DP, a Sheffield boy originally but now based in Winchester. Still pumping out the good stuff though. This ones for those weirdos that like house like me, a spattering of that future garage stuff again & just general goodness. Also featuring a track by Sheffield bad boy, now based in Leeds, Kidnap Kid. Check out his Facebook page - http://on.fb.me/juHoN3 - for links to his soundcloud & stuff where his sounds are, some good stuff on there.

House Is For Weirdo’s Only by 2-DP

Finally there’s a mix from Sheffield soundboy Akid, one of the founding members of <20hz Sound System, if your looking for some conscious sound with real heavy bass and nasty noises that will make you wanna bang your head against the wall, or just to make you pull that bass-induced grimace check this mix out.

A-Kid - may 2011 mixtape by <20Hz SoundSystem

That’s all for now, keep on sending me stuff to listen to & keep on making those big mixes!

Mix Fix #001

Welcome to the first bumper edition of Mix Fix, a somewhat regular look at some mixes i’m currently enjoying & liking.

So it briefly felt like the summer was here & I felt a craving for some Hip Hop, especially as I do  alot of driving these days for work & Hip Hop is generally good driving music. After searching around a bit I found this little beut, to be honest most of what I found was agreeable but this one was the one I liked best. Hip Hop grove goodness, enjoy!

I recently felt myself craving for some “Future Garage”, to be honest i’m not quite sure I knew what that genre actually meant at the time but after searching soundcloud for it I found the below mix. Bass with a difference, the difference being the bass is the same but the bleeps & bloops are a bit different. I especially like the last couple of songs. Enjoy!

I know I might have said that the summer could be here but I just can’t get this mix out of my mind & everytime I listen to it I feel better & enjoy it the same as before. Been really feeling MJ Cole’s productions & I think this mix still works even in the summer. Enjoy!
